How to Apply

Once you have found the program that is perfect for you, you will apply for approval from UA to study abroad using the online study abroad application found on the UA Education Abroad website.  Below you will find information that we hope will assist you in gaining access to the system and creating your application.

First Time Applicants: (must follow these steps)
  1. Use the “Program Search” link on the study abroad website
  2. If you have a program picked out, you can enter the name or a portion of the name in the “Program Name” box and click “Search.” Or if you want to search for a program you can select any of the available options to begin your search and then select “Search”. 
  3. In order to view a program, click on the name of the program.
  4. Once you have decided which program to apply to, select the “Apply Now” button located on the program brochure page.
  5. If you have not already logged into the system you will be redirected to the myBama screen.  After entering your UA credentials you will have access to the system and can begin the application process.
  6. From this point forward, the system will generate the appropriate application to you. NOTE: Every study abroad program is different, so applications will vary.

All Subsequent Logins: (after an application has been created)
  1. Select the “LOGIN” link in the top right corner of the study abroad website
  2. You will then be redirected to myBama. At this point you should enter you’re myBama username and password as you normally would.

Our site is viewable to anyone, however, only UA students and faculty/staff will have access to the system.  If you are a transient student (a student who normally attends another university) and you wish to participate on a UA Faculty-Led Program, please read below to find out more information on how to proceed.

Information for Transient (non-UA) Students

Non-UA students are welcome to participate in our UA faculty-led study abroad programs. To apply, follow the instructions below.

1. Submit a UA Study Abroad Application online at as instructed above for first-time applicants. Once you submit your application, additional instructions will be emailed to you. The instructions include the following:

          a. Apply to The University of Alabama as a transient student by accessing and completing the UA Undergraduate Admissions Application online ( and pay the application fee to complete this portion of the application process. 
          b. Once you receive your UA campus wide ID number (CWID), keep it handy for later in order to pay for your program and register for classes associated with the study abroad program. 

2. Print out the
UA_Transient_Student_Study_Abroad_Approval_Form.pdf, complete it, and mail to the following address:

Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0254

This form is the only additional step to complete your admissions application and must be signed by your home institution's Study Abroad office or Registrar's office.

Once your study abroad application changes to "UA Endorsed," you can begin paying for your study abroad program using the instructions provided in the application. Once payment is made, you are considered to be officially accepted into the program and will be able to register for the appropriate course associated with that program.
